Glory Academy Tickets

GAFA Giveaway

It’s production week for this weekend’s Glory Academy of Fine Arts production of Psalms. The shows take place this Friday at 7:00pm and on Saturday at 3:00pm. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. I believe this year’s production will be the best we’ve ever seen. For ticket information, call 910-602-5302.

The GAFA production is one of the highlights of my year at ROCK Church. Did you know that over 40 churches have been represented in our academy this year? It’s not just a ROCK thing. We are excited that this academy is an instrument to bless all of the churches in Wilmington.

I believe in this production so much, that I am personally giving 10 tickets away right here on the blog. How do you win? Just leave me a comment on this post telling everyone what your favorite Psalm is and why.

Tomorrow at 5:00pm EST, I will randomly pick 5 winners and award 2 tickets per winner.

Ready? GO!

Charity Concert Recap

Who said you can’t have fun while giving? This past Friday, ROCK Church presented the Our Finest Gifts We Bring charity concert to benefit Coastal AIDS Resource Efforts. It was a blast!

In all, about 250 presents were given to provide Christmas to children affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. Many people also gave financially! If you would like to know more about the ministry of C.A.R.E. and how you can volunteer, give Gaye Hieb a call at 910.232.5324. Tell her I sent you.

Check out some of the pics below. Our amazing youth pastor/photographer extraordinaire, Matthew Ray, captured these great images. If you look close, you can spot a Lifepointer who crashed the stage. Nice!

I am so humbled to pastor such a generous church. You guys are amazing.

David, Carolyn, ROCK Church ministry staff and teams – You ROCK! Thank you for making the dream come alive.

I LOVE YOU ALL!

Jazz, Blues, African Drums, Dancing, HIV/AIDS and Christmas

I believe this Friday could bring one of the most amazing concerts to ever happen at ROCK Church. When our creative team met several months ago to begin planning our Christmas production, David challenged us with an idea very different from anything we’ve ever done before – a charity concert to help a local AIDS ministry provide Christmas for affected kids.

I knew very quickly that we this was not just a good idea. I believe it is much bigger than that! We are going to show the love of Christ in a huge way.

Coastal AIDS Resource Efforts (CARE) is a ministry based out of the Saint Mary Parish in downtown Wilmington. This concert will help them provide Christmas to children who are either affected or infected by HIV or AIDS. I believe our ROCK Church family is going to show up in a big way and bless these children like they have never experienced before.

The concert takes place this Friday, December 5th at 7:00pm. The lineup is packed with incredible artists including:

  • Blues Legends, Charlie & Rose Lucas
  • Pop/Jazz Artists, Aqua Viva
  • International Worship Leader and Recording Artist, Charles Ciepiel
  • West African Dance & Drums of Cheick Sissoko and SokoLab
  • Glory Academy of Fine Arts Dance Company
  • ROCK Church Worship Team

Admission is a new, unwrapped toy and/or a cash donation. ROCKERS, why not bring both? Let’s show these kids how much Jesus loves them. Find out more about the concert at therockchristmas.com.

Tomorrow, I’ll tell you more about the ministry of CARE and how they are making a difference in our city.

Sunday thoughts

  • Noah and Adam both got base hits this weekend! I am proud of them. But, I’m still ready for baseball season to end. Does that make me a bad parent?
  • I am worn out! I don’t know how you guys multiple services do it. I believe that is in our future and I am excited and nervous about it. I want to do whatever it takes to reach our city. Even if it means being completely wrung out.
  • The Glory Fine Arts production of Creation this weekend was amazing! The Saturday performance looked like it was full or pretty close to it and yesterday’s matinĂ©e was about 75% full. Abbye and her team are absolutely amazing.

Abbye and Carolyn will much more in-depth posts about the production later. Until then, check out more of Millie’s pics HERE. I love being a part of a church that uses all of the arts to worship our God.

  • Matthew proposed to his sweetheart Jennifer Roush yesterday and she said YES! I don’t know what he did to trick her. But, whatever he did, it worked. You can see more pics over on Millie’s blog. Hey Matthew, remember that you are not married yet. Keep your lips to yourself. Congratulations! I am proud of you both.
  • There was a good feel to the service this morning. I believe we are tracking right where God wants us.
  • Today I started our series I Serve and kicked it off by telling our church family that our church is not for you. You are the church and you are for the World. I then challenged the long-time consumers in our church to stop it and become contributors. I believe it hit home.
  • I had a couple after church, with tears in their eyes, ask me to forgive them because they had been coming to The ROCK for 7 years and had never plugged in to serve! They asked how they could get plugged in. WOW! Hang on ROCKERS! We are taking off!
  • I also heard that Millie is absolutely swamped with work. I know why. She is absolutely one of the best photographers… ever. But, instead of staying home to work, she came to church this morning and sat in the lobby so she could edit photos and listen to me preach! You go Mills!
  • After church today, a bunch of us headed over to the Greek Festival and ate until we just about exploded. I love Greek food.

  • Then Terri broke out her portable adjusting table and adjusted us all in the front yard. Terri is AWESOME!
  • It has been a very full weekend. I can’t wait until next week. More exciting announcements coming over the next few weeks.
