Good stuff

Lately, I’ve read several great posts that have moved me. Check ‘em out.

Rachel asks “What do they see?

Deanna is grappling with the same ideas.

Abs shares some great perspective for volunteers.

Lori, my assistant, reveals her personal code of ethics.

It sounds like Kirk Bowman and I will be talking about the same thing this Sunday.

Matthew found a billboard that will lead thousands to Christ… or not.

Perry Noble posted three questions that messed him up. They kinda worked me over too.

Carolyn has a new master file structure and Pete Wilson thinks she is the most organized person he knows.

Speaking of Pete, we should all pray for his son, Jett. Seems he has taking up cussing. At least it’s a word that’s in the Bible.

That’s all for now folks. Enjoy!

Grunge-Hop?

I love diversity. I love blending and melding styles together in worship. Check out a part of the worship set from the Ballard campus of Mars Hill Church in Seattle recently.

Not sure what style you call this… grunge-hop, hip-rock? Whatever you call it, I love it. I would love to see something like this at The ROCK one Sunday… that would be cool.

[via Dave Shaw after a short layover at Without Wax] I love the blogosphere.

Links that rocked my world

I have read several posts recently that have just messed me up. I thought, why not mess my readers up too? You’ve been warned.

  • Carlos posted about “How He Loves Us” and I was wrecked.
  • Abs wrote about Making the Difficult Decisions. Their soon-to-arrive new baby, Don’s new job and their family vision are monumental… epic even. Their family vision makes me excited.
  • Carolyn’s post “set the atmosphere” nails it. You absolutely must go read it right now and then fall on your face and have a heart-to-heart with God. I was in a public place when I read it and I wept anyway.
  • Mark Beeson compared turkeys to mature churches. It was awesome. Go READ IT NOW!
  • I love Jeff’s explanation of potential.
  • Did I mention that Lana Wood is blogging? Go check her out HERE.
  • Perry gave us five rules for meeting with a mentor. I already had my thank you card ready to send him for meeting with me. After reading his post, I have re-done that card. I could feel bad that my thank you is a direct result of reading his post. But, that would defeat the purpose of him speaking into my life. Perry, thank you for kicking my rear… again.

There have been many more posts that have made me re-think a lot. Thank you all for being real. I am better because of what you have written.

What have you read this week that wrecked you?

Eugene Peterson on storytelling

YouTube Preview Image
[via Scott Hodge]

Last year, Eugene Peterson took part in the 2007 Writers Symposium by the Sea. This is an amazing discussion. I have enjoyed listening as Dr. Peterson describes his work translating the Bible into The Message (my favorite translation).

He has a lot to say to preaching ministers. He is definitely teaching me a few things through this discussion. What was your favorite part?

Tony Morgan’s trail of tears

Tony Morgan Banner

As I was taking a break from cleaning house today, I stole a quick look at my Google Reader feed on the iPhone. I know, I know. I am easily distracted. Anyway… what were we talking about? Oh, I remember now. Google Reader/iPhone…

As I was scanning the feeds I saw that Tony Morgan had a new banner for the day. Lo and behold, it was mine! WOW!

Go take a look before he puts another one up. I am sure Carolyn has already sent on in too. If she did, I am glad Tony put mine up before hers because she actually knows what she is doing. I’m just a hack.

Thanks Tony! You just made my day. Now, it’s back to work… just as soon as I can find my iPhone… I think Jen may have hidden it so I wouldn’t be distracted…

Top posts of 2007

Ken Wilson over at Newspring gave me the idea to take a look at what you, my loyal readers, were reading last year.

Thanks to Google Analytics, I am able to find the top 10 posts for last year. Actually, I had Analytics running since April. Anyway, enough babbling. Here they are.

#10  The gift of worship
#09  Old people shouldn’t skate
#08  In my head
#07  Bahamas Pictures (I think the sharks attracted the crowds)
#06  Weekend Reflections
#05  Jack Bauer vs Jason Bourne
#04  What a party!
#03  Let the whole world see…
#02  At the risk of sounding obsessive
#01  Why my church is amazing 2 of until I’m done

One of the interesting things about this past year is that I am turning up on the blogrolls of children’s pastors across the US. This is likely due to the plug from Jim Wideman (Thanks Bro. Jim!). If you frequent my blog for children’s resources, you should also check out my wife’s page over at Looking For The Pony. She took over our children’s ministry a few months ago and is amazing!
