In the stillness
I’m sitting here on our deck listening to the birds sing along with our neighbors’ children. This week has been a roller coaster of epic highs and lows. I have seen the blessing and favor of God, the disappointment and heartache from undisciplined people, mourning for deceased loved ones, celebration of strong marriages, honor, commitment, determination, truth and on and on…
I have dreamed with amazing leaders, committed to even deeper training for myself and our staff, planned for the future, prayed, rejoiced and wept.
It has been an incredible week. So, I am sitting alone on the back deck quietly reflecting on what He has done this week. Thank you, God, for being… You.
Where is your quiet place?

Mom’s ROCK!
I’m writing this post while watching Sense & Sensibility with about 30 ROCK Mom’s.
Thank you to all of the dads who stayed home with the kids so mom could have a night out. You are awesome! I’m proud of you.
Thank you FlipSide Crew for watching the children who came with their moms. I love your generosity in giving freely to watch the kids. I’m proud of you.
However, no other men stepped up to help honor our moms. As your pastor, that was disappointing. But, that is OK. Gabriel (13) is helping with the FlipSide crew. Noah (11) stayed home to take care of Jennifer while she continues to recover from surgery. Adam (8) and I are spending the evening serving this amazing group of moms. If dad were not on a plane to Florida, he would be here with us. The McGee men could not pass up this opportunity to honor our moms by serving all of our ROCK moms.
I love this opportunity to give back to these incredible ladies. This is so much fun!
Bonus side note to all the guys: Watching a this movie with a group of women will teach you a lot about how a lady thinks. That is, if you don’t waste your time making fun of the movie. I am learning volumes by just listening to the responses of the crowd. If you were not here serving, you missed an opportunity to receive yourself.
Moms, thank you for giving so much to pour into your families. I love you!
MOMS ROCK!

Touch and Go
For the last hour, I’ve been watching Air Force One run “Touch & Go” drills. It’s safe to say the pilots who fly our President are some of the most qualified aviators around. They have years of experience and are trained for every scenario imaginable. Something as simple as landing and taking off were mastered long ago. Yet, they still practice over and over and over again.
Why do they do that? If you neglect the basics, they will ultimately cause you to crash and burn.
Look, here they come again…
Read MoreWhat I know so far
Over a year ago, I was cruising by one of my favorite writer’s blog. Under the heading “What I Know So Far”, he asked what his readers knew. Here is a paraphrase of my response.
- I knew God really, really loved me when He gave me Jennifer.
- I was reminded that I had a lot more to learn about life when I saw my first son, Gabriel, take his first breath.
- When Noah and Adam were born, I felt rich, poor, on top of the world and yet barely able to breath.
- I still work too much.
- At the end of the day, God will be more concerned with what I taught my boys than what I did in ministry. That scares me sometimes… actually a lot.
- Everyone can be upset at me and think I am a total screw-up. But, if Jennifer smiles at me, nothing else matters.
- When I look into Jennifer’s eyes, I know how easy it was for Samson to give up his secrets. I’m glad Jen’s not out to get me.
- Fatherhood trumps account balance every time.
- Sometimes, I talk (and write) way too much.
Let’s get political – part 1

I know. I know. I promised to write about the election this week and I have been a huge slacker. Things have been so nuts that I haven’t done early voting yet either. But, I will.
Today, I want to lay some ground work for my posts over the next few days by sharing a video with you. This come from Ed Young at Fellowship Church. So, take the next 36 minutes and 29 seconds to watch.
Prepared over the next few days to be either encouraged, challenged and/or offended. I will write about how I am applying the truth of scripture to my voting decision. I am still deciding whether or not to blog the name of the candidate I am voting for. If you want to know, ask me in person. But, it probably will not be hard to tell after this week is over.
Here is my question to you. How have you reconciled your candidates platform with the Bible?
