The Apple Store

Apple Store 2
So, I think Apple may be growing on me. I came to the Apple Store in Atlanta yesterday to pick up a few accessories for my new iPhone (Thanks again Matthew) and the whole family fell in love with all of the Mac computers.

So, maybe I’m just one step closer to crossing over. Don’t worry, I have quite a few before I finally make the leap. Oh, yeah, that’s me in the pic up there in the Apple store and, yes, I am posting this blog from the store on a Mac… Bill Gates, please forgive me.

holy promises

i waited and watched
wondering if i heard correctly
always believing
yet still a unsure
from frustration to elation
only to return again

but you promised
what i could not have dreamed on my own
it was bigger than me
so it had to be from you

long ago i grew tired
giving up evolved
from never
to unlikely
to maybe
to what if
but i never gave up
i will never give up
so i waited
watching
hoping

prayers turned to dreams
tears became sweat
now vision is becoming reality

the distant future
is now tomorrow
and anticipation
delivered this day
as expectancy defeats my slumber

so i wait to witness
another fulfillment
of a holy promise

I’m Speechless

On Sunday night, Matthew returned to Wilmington with the FlipSide crew from their trip to The CALL in Nashville. When he returned to the house around 10:30 he came down to our room to bring me a gift from his trip. From behind his back he pulled an iPhone bag from the Apple store. My jaw kinda dropped, but I figured something was up. Inside, was an Elvis Presley mug. I thought it was a classic move to shock me with an iPhone bag containing a coffee mug.

When I asked him how he got the bag to pull the prank, he pulled out an 8gb iPhone box. At this point, I was exited that he had gotten himself a iPhone. Then, he handed it to me and said, “This is for you.”

Needless to say, I was speechless. I stammered and looked for the words. But, nothing came to me. After a few moments some of the shock wore off and I was able to ask why. He said he had been saving for quite a while to get it for me as a way to say “thank you” for all I had done for him.

It is hard to describe the emotions that I felt… awed, excited, humbled, grateful and giddy only begin to describe it. He didn’t give it to me for my birthday or for a special day. He gave it to me “just because.” He went over the top when he blessed me.

What have you done lately to bless someone in your life that means a lot to you? Don’t wait for a special day. Don’t hold back. Be extravagant with someone to say “I love you” or “thank you”.

Matthew, you are an amazing spiritual son who understands even more than what I have been teaching you. Thank you for honoring me.

I’m off to play with my new toy.

Lazy days

Today is a lazy day. Eveyone needs to take one periodically. Last night, as I crawled into bed, the realization hit me that 9 people were sleeping in our house. Megan spent the night so she could be closer to the church for her early call time at 5:00am. Jen’s parents spent their last night with us before heading back home to Dallas.

We had a great time with Dave and Kaye on their visit this week. I wish we could have spent more time with them. But, with Jen’s new position this week, we were not able to tear away from the office as much as we would have wanted. It was pretty cool to have them here for the announcement of their daughter’s new role as our amazingly awesome, new Children’s Ministry Director. They were also able to experience the explosive power our July 4th party.

Twenty crazy people loaded up in two vans for Music City at 6:00am this morning. It’s going to rock their world! Matthew has some great leaders going with him. I enjoy watching him grow as a leader and draw great people around him. He has Megan, Matt and Earl going as leaders. Millie also hitched a ride with them at the last minute. How can you tell if someone is a leader? If someone is following them, they are a leader.

Now, I’m going to get back to doing a whole lot of nothing.

What a party!

Blowin’ stuff up for freedom
Wow! What a party yesterday. We had over 75 people in the backyard yesterday for our annual July 4th “Blowin’ Stuff Up For Freedom” Party. There was a lot of great food, amazing people, laughter and contraband fireworks.

Helen missed dad’s Butterfinger ice cream. Matthew, Millie and Carolyn took some great pics. Click the images below to check out their blogs. Millie also put together an amazing slideshow of the day. Check it out HERE.

We believe in going big at my house. I think we accomplished it again this year with our party.
