I love summertime. I remember, as a kid, the freedom summer brought. For kids, summer means the beach, sleeping late, playing in the sprinklers and forgetting the cares of the world.

As an adult, we have mortgages, bills and responsibilities to weigh us down. That’s how it is supposed to work, right? Why must the cares of this world weigh us down? Why do we have to lose the joy of our youth? Jesus said,

Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.”

Here is my challenge, let this summer represent a turning point for all of us. Let’s turn our hearts, minds, spirits and lives toward joy, peace and… fun. God is not stuffy, reserved, condemning or angry. He is the God of Peace. He is the one who is planning the party to end all parties just for us. In fact, right now all of heaven celebrates every time someone chooses to follow Christ. They are warming up and practicing for the “Big One”. Let’s start practicing with them.

In honor of a summer filled with joy, peace and fun, I present you my mascot. Adam just got his “summer cut” and I thought it represents everything in my heart… fun.
