This last weekend was awesome! I am never sure if the message is on point or not when I am preaching. I have found that many leaders feel the same way. I often ask a few people who are close to me that I trust to give me honest feedback. Every time a preach, people will say “good job” or “beautiful message.” That’s what you tell the preacher after a service. What matters the most is life change. Did the message make an impact that will be felt, or even remembered, a week or month later?

On Sunday, we heard comments about how the message was life changing. When I gave the opportunity for those in the audience to make the decision to follow Christ, I saw many hands go up all over the auditorium! It was an exciting day for sure.

The boys and I went to lunch without Jen. She was helping the ladies prepare for an afternoon of honoring mom. As an aside, there were many ladies who showed up to give honor to their pastor at that event and it meant the world to mom. Thank you, ladies. Back to the story. After lunch, I took the guys to get Jen’s Mother’s Day stuff. Why? Because she is amazing!

The Deep

At 6:00pm we kicked off The Deep. The Deep takes place on the first Sunday of each month and it is a time to wade out into the deep place of worship. Abbye kicks it off with a couple of planned songs to push us away from “the shore” and then we just see where it goes. If you have not been to one of these services, you are missing out! The best way to describe this worship experience is to say “WOW!”

For me, one of the simple pleasures of this event is that it is the one time a month where I get to run sound. We let the sound team take a break and just enter in. It gives me the opportunity to worship through another one of my creative gifts. This past Sunday, The Deep moved into a time of basking in the rain of His presence. I know this is a somewhat abstract idea. What does it mean to bask in the rain of His presence. I can only describe it as a peaceful, relaxing and refreshing time of just “being”. Kind of like sitting in the rain on the edge of the Cape Fear at Market and Water Streets with your feet hanging over the side. Yeah, it’s like that. Hmmm… good times.

So, this Sunday is Mother’s Day and we are going to give the day to telling our moms how over the top awesome they are. So, if you have a mom, grand mother of mom figure in your life that lives anywhere near Wilmington, you need to bring them with you this Sunday. Don’t be late, because the first few minutes of the service are going to be really cool.
