Virginia Tech MemorialAs I have watched the news unfold about the tragedy at Virginia Tech on Monday, my heart has been grieved. Over the years I have witnessed great tragedy and loss in the lives of people I love dearly. Whether it be from the tragic loss of a child, spouse or family member it still brings pain.

But how do you deal with the loss of a child at the hands of another as happened at Virginia Tech? The grief of family and friends must be overwhelming. I have prayed often for them over the last two days.

Every day, I want to hug my three boys and Jennifer and tell them I love them before I do anything else. I want to hug them before I leave for the store. I want to tell them I love them every night before I go to bed. Because tomorrow is not guaranteed. Have you told your family today how much they mean to you?

As a final thought, I leave you with God’s Word.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort ,

who comforts us in all our troubles,

so that we can comfort those in any trouble

with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives,

so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
II Corinthians 1:3-5

Our hearts and prayers are with the family and friends grieving the loss ones they held dear.
