When was the last time you were so excited about something that you just had to tell everyone you saw? Maybe it was an awesome vacation, a new car, your kid hitting a grand slam home run to win the game, getting engaged or that Powerball® lottery you just won. OK, maybe the last one was a little over the top. The desire to help everyone feel the same level of excitement that you feel can be overwhelming. A life without these kinds of moments can quickly become dull and meaningless.

There are times in our lives when we feel like there is nothing in our life to be excited about. We wait and wait and wait for something… anything to happen. For some, that event or moment never comes around. Or does it? If our attention is constantly on the negative in our life, we quickly lose focus of what can be.

I love possibilities. I would much rather talk about what could be than dwell on what has already happened. Don’t get me wrong. It is an unwise man who will ignore his past while plunging headlong into the same mistakes over and over again. On the contrary, I believe we should honor our past by striving for the next big thing. We should challenge and encourage each other toward greatness.

What if we fail? Fear of failure ranks pretty high on many people’s list of phobias. This question often rings louder in our ears than a much more important question, “What if we succeed?” If we remain on the couch in the comfort of our air-conditioned living rooms afraid of what might happen how will we ever accomplish anything? Don’t let fear rule your world! Let God and His plan for your life rule your world.

In Hebrews 10:24, the Living Bible says, “In response to all He has done for us, let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good.” Wow! If I am reading this correctly, it says we should outdo each other in doing good. Did you read that? This is not about forgetting each other. It also clearly instructs us to outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other. Who said competition was not scriptural?

Can you imagine what kind of buzz would happen in our city for God if His people would catch this vision to spur each other on? This is not about who is better or accomplishing more for God’s kingdom. It is a mindset that happens when we are so excited about what God is doing that we want to show everyone how great He really is. It is a passion for our church family that drives us to serve each other.

Programs, committees, mandates or guidelines do not accomplish this. It is only realized when we so love God that we cannot help ourselves. We serve each other because we love Him. We do good works as we acknowledge what He has already done for us.

You will never have an awesome vacation to tell all of your friends about if you don’t begin by making plans to go. If Jr. never attends tryouts for fear of not making the team, he will never have the opportunity to hit that home run. If you never accept that invitation for coffee or dinner how can you ever expect to get engaged? Your neighbor will never accept an invitation to attend church with you if they are not first asked.

It is true that life is full of risks. But great reward comes with a price. So what’s stopping you? Go on! Take the first step and tell the world what He has done for you. Take some time to invite your neighbor to church with you this Sunday. Share with your friend just how awesome God has been to you.

Can you hear that sound? That’s the sound of God’s people excited about Him. They are excited about their lives. We are excited about our church. I am excited for you! Can you hear it? There’s a buzz in the air and we are only getting started.
