I recently read the text of Bono’s remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC on February 2. My first reaction was probably like many of yours… Bono? I love Bono, his music, his message and his fight for Africa. But, a rock star at a National Prayer Breakfast? That’s awesome! Separate from the obvious cool factor of a rock star speaking to the nation’s religious leader, Bono had some very deep thoughts to share. It is not feasible for me to address each of his points in this blog so I will share with you what, I believe, is the deepest nugget of truth in his talk.
A number of years ago, I met a wise man who changed my life. In countless ways, large and small, I was always seeking the Lord’s blessing. I was saying, you know, I have a new song, look after it… I have a family, please look after them… I have this crazy idea… And this wise man said: stop. He said, stop asking God to bless what you’re doing. Get involved in what God is doing- because it’s already blessed.
Ouch! That is deep. How often do we ask God to bless what we are doing instead of getting in the middle of what He is doing?
So, what are you doing? Do you have to ask for God to bless it because you are on a different path from His? Or, can you simply thank Him for blessing you with the ability to be a part of what He is doing?
